After seeing a friends device running the dev preview and reading the overwhelmingly negative feedback from wpcentral see link(wp central link) and their forums the Music app seems to be a massive and unacceptable step backwards. They are hiding the FM, no access to other A/V apps like youtube and last.FM, broken backwards buttons ect.

Also seems to be some rumblings about games spamming your app list since they are no longer centralized in one place. Whoever is making these decisions needs to reevaluate. I agree that the hubs made WP what it was dismantling them especially if it is a step back in terms of performance usability and features is awful. They claim they are doing it to improve the speed they can update these apps separately faster but if takes months or a year just to get back to feature parity its not worth it.

Hey look its a Win Phone thread yet another opportunity for me to rant and rave about the willfully broken volume control.  Fix it Microsoft!! WAAAAAAAA.

    OK I'm done.

On the plus side, Music is now a regular app in the store so it can receive more frequent updates (previously it was built in so could only be updated when the OS was updated).

I'd have figured that this would be something positive for developers. It shows that Microsoft has enough trust in the developer API's to rely fully on them instead of OS-level secret sauce.

@Sven Groot: I actually mentioned that in the second paragraph of my post. If it takes months or a year of steady updates just to get back to feature and performance parity it is that really something we can consider an improvement? In addition if you go the the app store on WP 8.0 and search for the Xbox Music open beta it only has a 2 1/2 star rating based on 915 reviews. Many of them state the app stinks, its lacking in performance missing functionality, broken now playing live tile, missing artist pictures on lock screen ect. Someone on the team needs to take as serious step back and really evaluate if this is the right thing to do based on user feedback.

Also I know the phone team may say this is a "vocal minority" but its a community site dedicated to WP, that article was posted around 5pm and already has the better part of 400 posts most of them negative specifically relating to the Music and Games hubs being removed and replaced with "beta quality" apps that are far from feature parity vs what we already had

In addition if you peruse the comments many of them go back to the loss of a great music related product the Zune software and how it was replaced with something inferior or if your on XP not at all. For example there is no way in Xbox music on windows 8.1 to point the software to a network share where my music is on my Windows Home Server 2011 unless you hack it with a symbolic link in the default music folder. I mean what year is this? WinAmp has done this forever and the Zune software never had an issue. I point my network share as a monitored folder and bam all my music shows up. In addition where is XBOX music desktop app for Windows 7? It is the most requested item under Windows App on the User Voice page. Why has MS Music division (is it actually under the XBOX division) regressed so much and now they want to totally ruin our WP.

Just found a nasty bug. I was using the new Podcast app on my drive into work. Suddenly, audio stopped. I unlocked the phone to see what was going on and audio started back up. Figured I just hit a glitch in the audio file. But after a while, it happened again. And again, as soon as I unlocked the phone it started to play again. So, this time I paid attention, and sure enough, as soon as the phone went to sleep the audio stopped, and as soon as I unlocked the phone, it started again. Curious, I navigated to the start screen, and the audio stopped. Audio was no longer playing in the background. When I arrived at work I took the time to reboot the phone and test, and things are once again playing in the background. Don't know if it's an OS problem in general, or a problem with the new Podcast app, but that bug is nasty and needs to be found and fixed ASAP.

Have you checked the app settings in Battery Saver settings?  Is it possible that the allow run in background is switched off?   I haven't had a problem using the podcast app while driving.

My alarm didn't go off today... set for 7:00am and nothing. I did have volume at 0, but I use to have volume at 0 prior to the update and it would still always go off. I tested the alarm again when I got to work. Set it to 1 min from current time and it worked fine (phone not locked). Maybe since at 7am the phone was locked it's related to what wkempf was seeing. I'll check app settings as Dr Herbie suggests.

There are quite a lot of glitches and bugs in this update... I think I'm able to get my phone to restart if I confuse it some way (like entering a pass code before the lock screen has slid up completely). I've been looking around and there's some suspicion that this update might not be RTM. There's also some thought that the phone's firmware needs an update.

Ok, not sure if this was mentioned (also was probably the same as per update) but anyway...

Here is the System Settings List - Lumia 920( maybe it's different order for different phones / vendors)

@swheaties: Are you talking about the stuck volume? I had that to. I would change the volume and nothing changes.
I had/have numerous problems with my 920. Here's my list:
It would lock up, and I would have to let the battery drain completely, because there was no way for me to turn it off.
    I hate the back button...
My 920 had specs of white dust in the front camera. I didn't look at it closely at the store, and I never use it, so that doesn't bother me.
I visit alot of sport forums, and the browser would lock up on me. Don't know if its the browsers fault, or bad coding on the site's end.
After about 3 months, my calls would get all distorted. At first I thought it was just ATT's network, but searching online, it appeared to be a busted earpiece.
Can't create custom playlists on the phone. Really?

I didn't know who to blame, Microsoft or Nokia, but now that they are one, its much easier to lay blame going forward. My 920 became unusable for me, so I went back to my 4s as my phone.
Now I just use my 920 to take pictures and record video.
I want to get me another windows phone as my main phone, but my first experience was horrible.

I wasn't aware there was a setting for that. I don't see any such thing under Battery Saver. Regardless, the phone was fully charged when this happened.

The first day after updating I had the same problem. Today the alarm went off fine. This may indeed be related, or it may be two separate bugs.

Yep. This is a developer preview. Although last time everything was "perfect", we shouldn't expect such previews to be without problems. So, I'm not an angry consumer talking here. I'm actually not angry, and I am a developer who understood the risks when I updated. These still are nasty bugs, though, that need to be brought to the attention of the developers, and since no real site exists for submitting such bugs... :)

I haven't noticed any issues aside from the occasional glitch when launching some apps. However, some of this may be because we have the OS update, but not the Nokia firmware update. There could be driver issues involved.

Only took you about an hour. :P

Though, I don't think alphabetical helps much either since you actually have to know what the setting link is called. What we really need is setting search like in Win7/8 and Cortana to be smart enough to understand what you want to do.

Right. The last time I did a developer preview update, I didn't run into as many glitches, so I had such a high expectation for this one.

I do hope that releasing it now at the very least improves Cortana's recognition for the public release.

Now a full day has passed since the update, it seems the battery does last longer (I used to need to recharge during the first 3 rounds of "Angry Birds Go!" but today even when I cleared the 5 action points, I still have about 18% left. Is that related to the new DirectX runtime? (Or does the new runtime included in this update?)
