XboxOne S and Xbox Scorpio confirmed

XboxOne S is really cool and all, but, man, Scorpio is just next year around the corner. A whooping 8 cores XPU, 6TFLOPS, and 300+MBps bandwidth. That is a major jump. I want to know more about the ram, because it was the weakest link in XboxOne. I think they are going to use that new 3D RAM, which will be awesome.

Leaving WM on 5/2018 if no apps, no dedicated billboards where I drive, no Store name.

I have a feeling that Scorpio will be a premium device, with a price point well above the Xbox One S.  Both will have their place in the market at the same time.

I'm not sure about the timing of the announcement.  Without discussing the price range, the hype could be built up enough that 1) the price becomes a huge let-down, and 2) Sony will be able to create and deliver a good or better competitor in the same time frame.

@bondsbw:I think Scorpio has to be significantly cheaper than Hololens but if it is as high end / uncompromising as they are suggesting then of course it will have to open at a realistic price point - and then get cheaper as the months and years pass :)

My hope is that a mass market device like XBOX will enable a more realistic price point than is obtainable by a dedicated high end PC.

I think MS will end up with a premium stand alone device (Hololens) and a Mass Market VR device (in XBOX Scorpio).

Personally very pleased that this has been announced alongside the open source Hololens SDK and Windows Universal VR compatibility - it is all looking good for the next big thing in computing!

(Meanwhile PS VR is coming October 13th - at least in the USA - though I suspect the experience on a 'legacy' PS4 will be less than ideal)

So when it says coming holiday 2017 what does that mean?  (I will defo be taking a holiday in January 2017 so can I expect to play with a Scorpio?  I think not.)

With apologies for not speaking proper American :)

But you'll have an entire year to set them apart, so you'll have to factor in the S getting up to $150 cheaper. Then, you're probably looking at Scorpio ~$500 for the base and maybe $450 without a VR accessory.

Makes me wonder, perhaps they will only sell it with some VR device?  If they can do less than $1000 for a bundled Scorpio + OR, that could be enticing.

You'll be able to plug in a Rift to the Scorpio (all but confirmed, they saw my postings on the message boards).  Scorpio will also have 4k gaming, S will only have 4k for netflix...

I might get the S because the Xbone drive doesn't work well most of the time.  I hope I can wait for the Scorpio though.  Will get a new TV for that as well for 4k.  Got a year and 1/2 to wait, long time, nothing to get excited about yet.

announcing both the xbox s and scorpio at the same time kinda gives me pause to buy the xbox s if i know a way better machine is coming in less than a year.
