Opening a thread often takes around two minutes.

I regularly have to wait two minutes after clicking a thread title before the thread will actually display. It takes an excessively long time. The thread lists themselves load fine as always.

Of course, it doesn't happen now, but when it does, I'll check the server location and update this. Currently it's North Central US.

Strange.  We've been collecting more performance data on our backend recently, so we may be able to track this down.

If you're familiar with your browser's dev tools, it'd be great to see a network trace of what's going on.

I'll get on that. I just checked the server location with this thread (which also took forever to load) and it's also North Central US, so I guess it's not that.

I've tested it out a bit, it hangs on a different file different times, but the culprit is usually http://static.ch9.ms/styles/editforums.css?v=d1UWVaCCdZkQn7QPfL_YUst0JLS8_QjXr-H5rS9G0WE1. This time it took 62.54 seconds. The second-slowest request is 1.57 seconds.

Edit: done some more testing, it's pretty much always that CSS file, which would explain why the thread lists load without a hitch. I've seen it hang on the creative commons image once too, but now it's always hanging on the CSS. This time it took 119.27 seconds.

@Bas: Just wondering what OS/Browser combo you are using? If you don't mind.

No problem, it happens on Windows 7 and 8 for me, both in IE10 and Chrome. Although I have to add that I didn't notice it yesterday or today (yet), so maybe the problem is gone.
