Site Performance Trouble

The site seems to be loading pretty slowly, showing System errors sometimes (MVC error pages) and the real error pages from C9 'Something Went wrong'.

I get it with any request, CoffeeHouse , Homepage, this Forum. Are you under a Spambot attack perhaps?

Are you under a Spambot attack perhaps?

Maybe... requests per second went really high, but webtrends traffic (only picked up when the traffic is a real user with a browser) did not... we are definitely noticing the performance issues though and are working on tracking down the source. Hopefully you'll see the issues go away quickly.

Don't hold your breath CKurt, they have been "working on the performation issues" for months.

@iamaelephant: I'm sorry but I only saw the performance hit yesterday. And I don't really aply much value to the messages of people without a decent avatar.

I'm referring to this thread, and others.

And now my avatar is a wonky-faced owl, therefore my arguments are valid Tongue Out

@iamaelephant: There are some issues with some people playing videos. The videos are stored on external servers dedicated to serving up files and have nothing to do with this site or our code. The point being, this is the first work we've been doing on the performance of *this* site as this appears to be the first real performance issue we are hitting.

We are definitely trying to track down the performance issue(s) people are seeing with the videos though, but it is very difficult to determine a common issue in those cases.

@Duncanma: Hi Duncan, I'm wondering. You you have machines located in certain areas of the world to test tis sort of problems?

I'm guessing with the new RemoteFx features being able to stream video over RDP this would be the most effective way to test the situation. Or do you have computers who fake their IP location and hit the other nodes of the CDN?

I can image this is very hard.

@CKurt: the engineers working on our CDN can test this by forcing traffic to go through a specific node, and to look at the logs of data passing through a specific node. They aren't really focused on the video as video, but just the speed of data transfer... it's all just bits to them.

We could, with a service like Gomez, test a given URL worldwide and see what performance people get, but we are not setup to use that type of service at this point.

Just to let you know. Here in Belgium this afternoon (Sunday 27th of March) I had some serious problems getting the site itself to load. (not the video's).

The Coffeehouse and even home page did not load. This is the first time they do.
