Ther is nog bus/shuttle service from the hotels in the center to the conference center. Has anyone ever been to a conference in Madrid/IFEMA to know if it is easy enough to get from the city center to the conference center? The route-planner in Google maps tells me that it would take 52 minutes.

Yes. I was there in February and I took the Metro. It was really easy (and clean) to get around Madrid. Depending on where you are staying it can take 52 minutes (it took me about 35 minutes to get from IFEMA to Pza. de Cibeles).  Let me know if you have any other questions!

Rent a Bike! I did that in Las Vegas (MMS2013), Los Angeles (WPC2010) and Atlanta (TechEd 2011)

In Madrid it will be round 50 Euro for a week and from Town Center to venue will take 30 minutes. you can save a lot on Hotel and transportation costs.

It doesn't hurt to try some search engines before you ask questions.

Don't know anything about height levels of Madrid

    Thank you for the tip.

I did used some 'search engines' @BlueThunder but @jasperkraak sounded as he had some experience in biking villages... What's better then the real experience talk in stead of looking at some nice publicity sites? Wink

    Hi!

I lived there for a few years, so allow me to help. Not a lot of hills, but definitely Madrid is not as bike friendly as Amsterdam. So I strongly suggest using the Metro . (Plus, Madrid can get very hot in Summer, although the hottest months are July and August)

I cycled Las Vegas, New Orleans, Atlanta and LA with Microsoft Events in mid summer. No "no sweat" but much better than the Metro. None of thes cities are bike friendly, so be carefull (nothing ever happend to me...). Plenty of bike rentals to be found in my "favourtite search engine".

Hi all, I live in Madrid and work about one mile from IFEMA.  I would not recommend you rent a Bike to move around.  IFEMA is not located close to the city.  It´s actually closer to the Airport.  So renting a BIKE would probably be useless unless you want to do some exercise. I wish I could write something different.

The Best option is definitely the METRO.

    Enjoy your stay here,

    JuanCarlos

    Hi!!
I'm from Madrid, I live here, and renting a bike is not the best option... use metro! It is very fast and the best option.

If you need help or tips with any other thing, don't hesitate to contact me. Smiley
