Fitbit Groups for TechEd and The Krewe

I'm bringing my Fitbit to TechEd, and I've created a couple groups, one for The Krewe and one for general TechEd NA attendees. Feel free to join one or both. I'm interested to see how many steps we can accumulate that week in NOLA as we wander around that behemoth of a convention center.

I tried adding the links to the groups here but the forum rejects them as spam, so stop by my website and get the links there to join the groups:

    Here are the direct links:

I figured out the trick to the spam issue. After I paste the link, I had to remove the HTML link markup that is automatically added, then the site makes the link on its own. That's not very intuitive...

@Scott_Ladewig:Great idea.  I have joined both groups.  Thanks for starting this.

I was in DC about two weeks ago with my family and wanted to track how much we walked each day as we did our sightseeing stuff.  We were averaging about 21,000 steps or about 9 miles per day. I'm anxious to see how much I end up doing at TechEd.

I wish I had one. Feel free to buy me one and I'll glady join. Smiley

Awesome idea! I joined the group for The Krewe but can't find the TechEd one. What exactly is it called?

    @ljrivera:Microsoft TechEd North America group.

Aww, man! I looked for MS TechEd and TechEd. Seriously, I'm pretty new to fitbit. Is there a way to get to different pages of the groups list or search that I'm not seeing (or maybe just can't do from my iPad)?

I got it. Sheesh. They don't make it easy to scroll through the groups do they?

@ljrivera: They definitely do not make it easy to find groups. I can't imagine why they don't provide a way to search for groups, but someone put up their own site for doing so. You can search for Fitbit groups at http://relliker.com/

I figured out the issue with the site not letting me post the links and have updated my original post with the direct links. Feel free to still visit my site (http://www.ladewig.com) though. It gets lonely if no one visits. Smiley

If you know other people with Fitbits who are going to TechEd, please spread the word.

Was a good excuse to buy one.  Thank you for setting this up.  Also, now I can prove to people how much walking you do at TechEd.

I have a Fitbit One as well.  My first one and pretty cool so far.  Finally figured out the sleep tracker feature.

As an aside, anyone planning on visiting the local CrossFit gyms, or doing any gym workouts, or running while in NOLA?  Is there a group or thread for that?

I'm staying at the JW if anyone's interested in sharing a cab to the local CrossFit boxes, or running early together.

@JasonDimaio:Due to time constraints, I'm just going to hit my hotel gym when I can and get my workout from my daily walks.

I've always lost weight at TechEds.  Even with all the food, snacks, and plentiful drink (and even when hitting the Quarter every night), I always drop about 5Lbs.

I like the fitbit idea, though.  Time to go shopping and join y'all in this.

It would also have been interesting to compare Orlando TechEds with the others.  I'm convinced that the Orlando convention center requires more walking than any of the others.  But perhaps going up and down Bourbon St. will make up the difference.  Smiley

I got a Zip to see how it all works. It had good reviews on Amazon and if it works, it's what I've been looking for. I may even upgrade to the Flex.
