When does the hotels list on the web site get updated? I've tried most of the hotels listed and some that don't say "sold out" really are. Most of the others don't have any rooms left at the posted rate and are $300/night.
Unfortunately a lot of companies like mine don't budget for conferences until the year they happen, which means by January when we can book, there is nothing good left.
As a standby, I made an independant reservation in a small hotel nearby that wasn't on the list, but now I look at their reviews, I'm doubting my descision.
I believe at this point, most of the hotels reserved for the TechEd rate are sold out. The ones further out in distance may be available as I'm hearing some peers have reserved them. For the others that are not listed as "sold" it may be due to the days requested per reservation. Some were able to get rooms and the discounted rates with a departure of Thursday rather than Friday. At the moment, on the registration page, the only one I see listed as not sold is the Crowne Plaza Houston Downtown.
Contact the reservation team listed below as they may be able to assist you further.:
@HarjitTBone2K: Just checked and we still have 19 hotels in the TechEd room block that have plenty of availability!!! No problem reserving a room at this time. Like Harjit said, if you have specific registration questions around booking a hotel, contact the registration team!
Are the hotels doing something silly like euh say sending a confirmation? I did my registration 2nd week of December and am still waiting for the confirmation. Status is kept at sent, whatever that may mean.
@MCorbeek:I emailed the registration team last night about same issue see reply below:
Thank you for your email. Due to the holidays there has been a delay in hotel confirmations. I assure you that the hotel has received your request, and you should expect a confirmation in the next couple of days. I'm so sorry for the delay and appreciate your patience.
I ran into a funny issue similar to what @Harjit described. The hotel I wanted wasn't listed as sold out, but when I went to make a reservation it told me it was unavailable. After a bit of clicking around I noticed that if I changed the check-out to Thursday (instead of Friday), it let me make a reservation. Then I just booked Thursday night ONLY at the same hotel through my company's travel system (and got a cheaper rate than what was available during the week).
So now I have two reservation numbers for the same trip, but hey, it worked.
@JCWilbur Nice tip, I should have thought of that earlier.
I booked a flight/hotel combo with expedia.com and got a better hotel rate
I'm doing this a bit late, but potentially going! Having a look now, all the nearby hotels are sold out, and the only one on hotels.com is more than $400AU a night. Anyone have any ideas?
@AdamFowler:There will be shuttle from all the conference hotels. Though a hotel may not be in walking distance, riding the shuttle and taking advantage of that time to network with other attendees and/or prep/decompress is not a bad idea.
We just booked out team at the Hyatt Regency downtown and there's still rooms available at the contracted rate. Hope that helps!
I registered on the 5th, the Hyatt Regency was not available for selection through the TechEd registration site. That's odd. I went for The Westin Oaks (or something similar) near the gallery and haven't gotten a confirmation yet....
@dewnut You might want to contact the MS hotel/registration help or contact the hotel you were looking to stay in directly. Next week I'm in Houston for the Global Energy Forum and booking the contracted rate through the MS provided portal was a mess. Contacting the help team and hotel resolved my issue and there were still rooms available....otherwise the Galleria is an awesome location and a cheap cab ride away :)
Thanks! I called last night - they said there had been some back-up but they had sent the registrations Monday, so I should have a response soon. As for the Hyatt, it probably didn't show as available because I am staying Sunday-Friday and one of those days must be booked. Likely Sunday or Friday.
Just got the updated exhibitor info packet including updated info on all the hotels still available. Here are the ones that still have availability as of today under the contracted rate (and are close to downtown)
-Crown Plaza Houston River Oaks (4.5 Miles)
-Doubletree by Hilton, Houston Greenway Plaza (4.5 Miles)
-Four Points by Sheraton Houston Southwest (5 Miles)
Looks like nearly everything in the Galleria is open as well. Hope this helps!
Staying at the Westin Oaks, got my confirmation. Hopefully its not too far away and traffic isn't terrible. I will be taking the TechEd bus back and forth... anyone have any input?
I get the "you snooze you lose" but I just got told that I can/need to go to teched for the first time ever. I was super excited, but when it came to finding a hotel I was quickly shot down a level seeing that all the close hotels are all freaking sold out, months still before the conference! I don't want to be stuck taking shuttles back and forth. :(
@GlennVelsol - Don't be overly concerned about taking shuttles back and forth. I've had it both ways - stayed right across the street last year in New Orleans, but rode the shuttle in most prior years. Yeah, it's nice to be able to just walk across the street, but riding the shuttle gives you the chance to chat with other attendees and learn a lot - from what they do that might be a solution to your tech problems, to which exhibitors are giving away great swag, to which sessions are the best to attend. Microsoft and their partners do a fantastic job managing the shuttles - they make it as easy on us as it could possibly be!
