I know, New Orleans, there is lots to do. Any thoughts as to if my wife would have a good time while I was at the sessions all week. Any organized groups for the spouces?
There have never been (so far as I know) "official" groups, but occasionally spouses do get together. Kind of depends on your spouse; my wife would be happy to sit and read near the pool for the whole week; others have to be out and doing something, Maybe in mid-May you could put out another notice and see if something comes together.
I have been to New Orleans while my husband was in sessions and had a great time. Just remind her to be careful while she is out and about. I have not been there since Katrina so I am not sure if some of the places I visited are open now, but the walk around Jackson Square is lovely and there are street entertainers as well as artists to observe. Also the walk along the river is nice. There is the old JAX Brewery with lots of shops inside that building. Harrahs Casino is kind of cool to walk through even if you do not gamble. I also just got on the streetcar and road the whole route.
Thanks ScriptingWife, my wife will be joining me for the first time this year, as she really wants to see New Orleans. I have heard as well that you need to be careful if your on your own, so she plans on signing up for some of the walking tours. But i figure that the more popular areas of the French quarter should be ok during the daytime hours.
I am heading down on the early with my wife so have a little fun before the sessions start.
My wife is coming as well, we arrive on Sunday, but are staying until the following Saturday for an extra couple of days. She's really into art & culture, any suggestions on art / culture rich areas for her to visit during the session days?
First of all, SAFETY, I talked with a local person that had been mugged herself, she said I passed the test she gave me for my observation skills and street smarts. Mainly always be aware of groups of people or sneaky singles around you. agroup can gang up on you and corner you, a single person can swiftly sneak by grab your bag and knock you down. DO NOT ever go down a deserted alley or street, watch for recessed doorways, you never know who is inside them or that you can be forced into them and hidden from others view while you are attacked. Now for things I really enjoyed, again Jackson Square is a must. I could spend one day there between the church, the shops and entertainers as welll as artists, plus Cafe du Monde is right there and JAX Brewery Bldg. I took one day trip to tour Oak Alley Plantation, there are several companies that offer a tour there. New Orleans Musuem of Art was nice. She can take the trolley there. Hope that will get your wife started. Let me know if I can help in any other way.
