    Yeah.  I've got one of these.  And its CD drive is not working (DVD-ROM, CD-ROM).

    I put in any CD, CD-R or pressed (like PowerDVD 6), and XP first:

    Tells me to please insert a disk into drive D:.

    Then it pops up a little notification:

    ================
    Disk is not formatted
    ================
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Windows cannot read drom this disk.  The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    =======
    =    OK   =
    =======

    And I pop that disk in my desktop, and it works fine.

    What could be the problem?

    Get a "CD Drive cleaning kit" from your local music shop, it's a special CD with a brush stuck into it. As the disc spins it brushes the drive's head.

    When the drive head cannot stay in the right physical track on the disc. If that were the case I'd send it back and get a warrenty replacement.

    Then drive = b0rked.

    But first, check for any firmware updates.

    Open the computer and see if the CD drive is connected correctly.  I had a dell that shipped with all the drive cables unseated once.
