Hi all, I'm running a social networking site, and wondered how Bebo managed to interact with Hotmail to send out emails to people on a particular hotmail user's address book? Is there some kind of public hotmail API around? Let me know! Smiley Thanks

Unsure about a public API but you should be able to login and scrape the site to pull the email addresses.  A quick example would be to authenticate against the server and then access this URL:

    http://<hotmailserver>/cgi-bin/AddressPicker?a=<unique_token>&curmbox=<unique_token>&Context=InsertAddress&_HMaction=Edit

This will bring up the contact list in a Select box titled MyContacts which can easily be scraped.  Not the most elegant solution, but it works.

    I'm beginner,so I cannot understand this code.
Would you explain each part in detail? Or please give me complete small code.

It's not programming code, it's a URL to a Hotmail webpage that shows who'se on your contacts list.

Please, explain me each element in query string.
I hope you give me complete URL with account name - 'aaa' and password - 'bbb'.
    Thank you.

I think myspace are doing this now too... Thanks for the reply richwalkup. I guess the idea is to form some kind of POST request and grab the response, analyse that for the two querystring parameters and server URL, and then requesting the address page with a newly formed GET request? I will post my findings here. Little bit concerned that I will be sending the username/password as plaintext from my server to hotmail's.

If you need to be asking me that sort of stuff, you need to re-consider your position.

There is an API developed in PHP to access your Hotmail account and get the contacts / emails / send emails / see folders

You will find it here: http://www.fgde.com.ar/hotmail-api.html

    Best regards,

Was it really worth necrobumping a two-year old thread, just for that?

Why don't C9 admins put in some kind of warning system for replying to ancient threads?
