VS6 Install After VS2003 and VS2005

    I've been trying to install Visual Studio 6 on Windows XP which already has VS2003 and VS2005 installed.

    At the end of the VS6 install I get the message:

    "Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Setup was not completed successfully"

    However - it appears to be installed and works - but it will not allow me to install Service Pack 6 because it does not even see VS6 installed.

    If I run the VS6 setup with logging enabled I see the following error in the log:

    Registration of type library C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\Common\IDE\IDE98\VSEXT.OLB failed, error 8002801c
    return

    If I try to register it myself by using:

    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\Common\IDE\IDE98\VSEXT.OLB"

    I get the msg:

    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\Common\IDE\IDE98\VSEXT.OLB" is not an executable file and no registration helper is registered for this file type.

    I've searched the net for info on vsext.olb but can't find anything much.

    Thanks for any and all help.

    Err... I also have VS6, VS2003 and VS2005 installed. (In that order)

    The only copy of VSEXT.OLB I found in registry only is from "Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSEnv\vsext.olb" (I can found no other entry) so perheps you should try to register that one instead.
