User navigates to page and downloads MSI.  Ideally, I'd like to have that page refresh upon completion of the MSI.

    Anyone know how that's done?

You mean like MS does it? It's a cheat, a meta refresh after X seconds. There's no way to get a notifcation when it completes.

You could, maybe, parse the logs and check how much data has been sent to the client; ugly though

Analyze the internet connection like Speedtest.net etc. do it, then give yourself a rough ETA and add 3 seconds, to be sure Smiley

If Blackberrys are addictive cellphones, Channel9 is the ultimate addictive website.

You could create a custom action to open an IE instance pointing to your page ....

BRRRRR WRONG!  What if the user is dial-up? or that swedish woman that has almost gigabit ethernet... or how about server loading causing the server reduce the maximum data rate?

Web pages are stateless and the download process is usually a seperate thread on the client.. initiating the download is like clicking on a html link except the mime type initiates the download rather than loading a new page/graphic/video etc.
