Yeah I'm still trying to figure a way to scam x64 without having to pay for it. Forgive me I'm an unfunded research student.

Anyway how about this scenario. I have an OEM copy of XP running on a 32 bit machine and a studnet copy of XP running on a x64 machine. Can I exchange the OEM copy for XP x64 install that on the x64 hardware and then install the student XP on the 32bit machine?

If only I could be so creative at how to make money as how not to pay then I'd be a lot better off Smiley

their upgrade criteria is quite specific. no upgrades for student copies, just upgrades to 32bit oems on x64 machines. i need to figure out if i can get an upgrade of a 32bit oem xp on a 32 bit machine.

MS are giving FREE upgrades of OEM Licenced Windows XP Professional to anyone who purchased their legit copy between March 31 2003 to NOW.

    Why?  There is no point.

Apply for the 120 Trial to get you started until you find some other way.

I studied at an institution that had an software aliance agreement.  We had access to most of the good stuff.

No, the OEM licence is tied to the hardware it was supplied with.

If you're a student studying a computing based subject (which I'd guess you are given that you are here) why not ask if your department is a member of MSDNAA and if not, why not?
