    @cro:

    Get the Media Center Pack for Windows 8 Pro

    Thanks !

    I can understand that they didn't put Media Center in Windows 8 by default. But they should at least put the drivers so that we can watch wtv files without add-ons. Is there a licence that Microsft has to pay for that format?

    Yep, .wtv is an MPEG-2 container. MS decided to save some money and not include it with Windows, hence the Media Center Pack.

    So spend $99 just to playback a format chosen by MS. What a joke. Media Center Should not require you to run PRO to purchase it. Since most consumer PC's come with windows 8 Home this upgrade costs $99. That's BS!!!

    If WTV files were that important to you, you would have already known about this and taken advantage of the free upgrade that Microsoft offered for the first three months Windows 8 was available.

    Media Center is dead and was only used by 2% of users in Windows 7. Why should MS keep including it?

    Free VLC Player.

    I can understand why MS does so.

    I love Media Center on my Win7 machine which takes care of all my TV needs that are not much.  I can watch them from my Win8 machines by using VLC Player

    Just my tuppence worth -- I use Media Centre a lot.  To play recorded TV on my surface by using MC-TVConverter to convert to MP4.  It takes time, but otherwise it's relatively painless.

    I have no links to this software, it's just a utility that I personally use.

    PS:  It's also free.
