We are experimenting with Windows Phone 8 and the HTML5 features of IE10, but we didn't find a way to upload a picture from either the phones camera roll or the HTML5 camera api which is not supported.
I don't have a WP8 device to test on - but on iOS 6.0 or later, using HTML <input type="file" /> prompts the user to choose from their photo library or take a photo with the camera. Try that and let us know what happens!
AFAIK WP8 won't open file upload dialog unless your phone have extension storage (like microSD card) installed. And then it'll only allow you to select files on card.
In others words, this control have no use on phones that do not have expension slot, just like Lumia 920. (I just used mine to confirm this.)
@cheong: just tried this, but even on a WP8 phone with an sd card and pictures stored on that card, the file control still does nothing at all.
However since we just had Lumia Black update not long ago, any idea on whether it'll be delivered with next major release or as seperate update (like how the IE8 compatibility update goes before 8.1 update 1 on desktop)?
