@Laura10: Same problem here. I 'm from Belgium and the links don't work because the Apps part of the Zune software is 'not available in my location'. But the windows phone and market place is: www.windowsphone.be . To be honest, It has never worked since the launch of WP7
@Laura: I have had some trouble playing video's on C9 the last few weeks with the embedded player. Most of the time it just doesn't load or do anything when I hit play and when it does work it need to buffer a lot more then it used to. I just use the link to WMP now and let it buffer there.
Also, I watched a small test recently on belgian television and it indicated that handfree calling was just as bad as holding your phone to you head. Like Paul said it has something to do with the fact you really need to listen and prepair a response when calling somebody. With a radio you don't need to respond. And when you talk to somebody else in the car you can set the speed of the conversation and nobody would mind if you do not answer directly because you are focussing on the road and everybody knows. With a telephone conversation it's not like that, the other person does not know you are driving and does not know how crowded the streets might be.
Also in Belgium only hand-free calling is legal. They know it's just as bad as calling with the phone in your hand, but it so hard to check for the police (Is he calling? Is he singing allong with the radio? Is he talking to himself?) they just can't make a law out of it.
Really really sorry to hear this is compatibility is only for Windows Phone, you are loosing the 3 screens and a cloud and should really have made decided to make this feature for Windows and Xbox to.
Then again scaling a silverlight UI might not be that handy. Developpers should have a way to use different overlays of the UI depending on the screen size and input mechanisme (touch, keyboard, gamepad). Also, that would be announcing Silverlight for the Xbox and you don't want to that clearly (although I was really expecting it).
My point: this feature should be on all 3 platforms! It would make it harder to implement for you guys but would really spice sliverlight up! This is also really confusing with the new 3D API's in Silverlight and XNA API's compatibility. Why is the 3D stuff in Silverlight desktop/browser not just XNA ?
The microsoft stores should go global if only for branding. To make addoption faster they should find a way any new business starter can brand his store 'Microsoft Affiliated' and get tons of window stickers and promotional material to make the store shine. (e.g: The racks hoding the stuff )
Apple has done a similar thing with it's Switch stores here in Europe (http://www.switch.be/ )It">http://www.switch.be/ )It aren't apple stores but they are stongly affliated with Apple Stores. Microsoft needs better branding in retail stores. They need to have a program controlling what laptops are promoted from week to week for example.
Nice to hear about building the C#.vNext compiler in C# 4.0 but I'm wondering if they have a particular order to write the new language functions in so they can use the new functions to create the next function.
For example what if having feature Y makes implementing feature X more easy. And both of them are nog yet in the current compiler. It must be very hard but challenging meetings. So much fun !
Great video! I would love to here more about the relationship they have with the XNA team because the XNA team has a lot of experience in this area. When they first started is was also to make game development easier, better and more productive (but without keeping the C++ perf).
They came up with stuff like Services and Gamecomponents to help build an engine. This makes life easier. You talked about more and more stand allone people get into C++ and Games, wouldn't Microsoft want those people on the XNA wagon?
@Damon: the entire Ping show is nsfw imho, it does not help you develop anything. I would say the other going deep video's are for watching in spare time, not working hours.
I want to learn more about developping in my spare time. Because coding is fun, altough I like architectures and modelling better than writing the actual code sometimes. Because the magic happens more in the architecture than the actual writing imho.
Thx for the answering my questions! Here is my follow up.
1) I was running Windows Live Messenger 2011 but it seems like there has been an updated release and I installed that one. I have not ran into the issue up until now.
2) Not solved yet. The files are in a folder on an external hard drive. Only the files on the external harddrive are not show. (Local C drives are all shown). All files I'm looking for are .avi files which Media Center can show (I can open them up from the Videos Library and play them in Media Center). The external folders who are not shown are included in the 'Video' library on my Windows 7 PC. I've also gone trough settings in Windows Media Center and checked the folders were added to the list. Also, I've set the sharing options to the Video Library to 'everyone - read' so I should be able to access them from any account. (Only have one account on this machine besides the guest one)
3) New: Media Center crashed when selecting the 'Movies' option in the main menu. It shows 'searching for movies' for a few seconds and then crashes. I have been trying to explore the event logs. Could you give a demo how this works? It's kind of a new thing for me.
