To me it seems that the concept of "Scale Sets" gives you PaaS-like features even if you're basically just doing IaaS and have a completely custom stack running on VMs.
To me this is super-interesting as I'm currently having a lot of architecture discussions about whether to force PaaS to harvest all the benefits like easy scaling, monitoring and such. With Scale Sets I could at least get easy scaling.
Cool stuff! Love SQL Server and the new Azure V12 Preview.
Any word on if/when cross-database scripting is coming? I think that would solve a big problem in lift-and-shift from SQL Server to Azure SQL Database. At least that's the case for my legacy On-Premise SQL Servers. Cross-database scripting is stupid and should never be used, but boy is it used out in the wild!
