Very cool. I did a game called Run and Shoot that I started using the UDP Datagram Socket sample. Will be checking out the methods used in this one, I found UDP to be very unreliable on some routers, like toss it in the garbage unreliable not just some lost packets here or there... Was thinking of doing SignalR but would rather not have to stand up a server and was worried about latency.
Thanks for having Mike Daily on here, I just purchased yoyo games gamemaker over the holiday and hearing Mike speak about it gives me a good feeling about the decision. I've been impressed so far. I like your point about asking if you can tinker with the output, and while Mike says you don't need to, i agree that you might want to. I'm not totally familiar with Gamemaker yet, in fact I've just opened it for the first time today. For all I know what I'm about to mention is in there. But let's say I wanted to have my game soundtrack streamed to a DLNA device using the PlayTo contract (my favorite contract on Windows 8) or some other feature they might not have integrated with, it would be nice to have the ability to go in and add that myself. I guess that's what he was talking about with extensions so i'll just need to look around and experiment. But this makes me feel good, like I can build anything with this tool.
