Description

Wait, isn't this the ASP.net Monsters and not the Docker Monsters? It is but Docker and containers in general are going to be a big thing in the next few years and the ASP.NET rewrite has come just in time for them. In this episode monster Simon takes us through what docker is and what it is going to mean for development in the coming years.

You can read more about Docker at http://www.docker.com/  and more about the exciting, upcoming Windows containers in the Windows Containers Quick Start.

I am not sure about you guys but time is of essence for us. Although, we do appreciate you posting these videos, you do take an inordinate amount of time to get to the point.

I am not looking for a comedy session -- I can get that elsewhere. As an IT professional I am looking to make the most efficient use of my time and that is not possible when 5 mts of info is interspersed with 10 mts of unrelated, inconsequential talk. Believe me guys, whether you are funny or not is immaterial. Please get to the point and don't feel the pressure to be funny -- that does not make you smart and certainly wastes a lot of our time.

Please take this as constructive criticism.

At 10:10 the image shows both nginx and Kestrel in the docker image. I was under the impression that a docker container should only run one process/application. If so, why both nginx and Kestrel in the image ?

I honestly don't think RahulMisra2000 was watching the same video as me. I don't see where this comedy act is happening?

I enjoyed this video, it was an informative introduction to what Docker is, I have heard of it but had no idea how it actually worked. You were clear and to the point. I did speed up the video but I speed up all videos I watch as time is money. I like you guys, you have character, don't become boring robots because of the not very constructive criticism.

I'm going to go to the beginning and watch all the videos in your series now.

Great job guys, keep up the good work!

@RahulMisra2000 Sorry that our content isn't condensed enough for you. I admit that we do, from time to time, get off track. Our goal was to create a more conversational type of content so we feel pretty comfortable being humourous. I still think the content is there.

We do indeed have a container with nginx and kestrel in it. Kestrel is a very lightweight web server and doens't have a lot of the features you might need for a web server which is why it is frequently housed behind nginx. While it is typical for docker images to contain just one service I think this is a reasonable time to put two services on one image. In production you might want to split the two so you can scale them independently but I suspect the load on them would be so strongly correlated that you would always end up scaling them together.  It would be something you would have to experiment with for your application. Great question!

@BigB: BEEP BOOP WE HAVE BECOME ROBOTS. But seriously, thanks for your comments. We have fun making the videos so we're glad that they're interesting to people who aren't our immediate family.

At last, video matches aspect ratio.

    Thank you :)

Update: Sorry, my bad..just saw Episode 8, which I see is when issue is fixed first time.

@Vicious1 Uh oh, looks like I suck at editing. She is fine but the plate she dropped is not.

Ah. Hopefully the plate was "garbage collected" :P
