Episode 233: Azure Event Grid with Bahram Banisadr

Play Episode 233: Azure Event Grid with Bahram Banisadr

In this episode Chris Risner and Thiago Almeida are joined by Bahram Banisadr, Program Manager focusing on Event Grid.  Event Grid is a new service which enables developers to build event based programming.  Events could be anything within Azure such as a blob being created in Blob Storage, a VM starting, and much more.  By subscribing to events, you're applications can be notified whenever these events occur.  You're also able to create your own custom events which can then be subscribed to.

Is there an effort to also bring events from external providers, say from SalesForce, Box, or other SaaS?

Yes, for sure. No timelines or which providers yet though. In the meantime custom events are supported: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/event-grid/custom-event-quickstart

Thank you nice introduce of Azure Event Grid.

I want to more compare Azure Event Grid with other services , for the reason why Azure Event Grid instead of other services
    1. Azure Event Grid vs. Azure Table Queue
    2. Azure Event Grid vs. Azure SQL Database
    3. Azure Event Grid vs. Azure Service Bus
    4. Azure Event Grid vs. Azure Queues.
    5. Azure Event Grid vs. Direct REST API call
    6. Azure Event Grid vs. Azure Event Hub
all vs target can use communication between processes, APIs.
Comparison Points seems processor cost, money cost, latency, publisher scale, subscriber scale, security, reliability, etc.
I love Event programming with Microsoft Flow,
which can connect a lot of app.
But so many customers build there app by legacy programming, use Database, Storage, Schedule Task with a lot of Peeks status updating.

Hi Yoshiro@YoshihroKawabata: we are working on more guidance of when to use Event Grid instead of or together with other Azure services, and some example scenarios. I will update here once we have it.
