Business Continuity with Azure - Connectivity

As someone who has worked in IT departments and an IT consultant for a Managed Service Provider (MSP), Business Continuity plans are something I've been involved in quite a lot.  Either recovering from a threat or designing a solution that could recover from a threat.

Business Continuity is the process of creating systems of prevention and recovery to deal with any potential threats to your company.  Those threats could be a natural threat, such as fire or flood or something such as an accidental misconfiguration of a system or a malicious attack from an outside source.

Whatever the threat, Business Continuity can be implemented in the form of backup and or disaster recovery.  When looking at Disaster Recovery and planning for that horror scenario within your environment you need to understand what you are planning on protecting, what would actually trigger your disaster recovery plan into action.

In this series I want to walk you through some of the options available to you when thinking about Business Continuity within your on prem environment using solutions within Azure.

Connectivity

Connectivity is something that is key to every environment, whether that be connectivity within your office building or connectivity to external resources such as the Internet.  The desktops, laptops, servers, storage, mobile phones etc all need some form of connectivity to help make your staff productive.

And it's an important part of planning your disaster recovery plan.  If something happens to your primary datacentre and you fail over to your secondary datacentre how do your staff and their devices connect into that datacentre?

If you are using Azure as your secondary datacentre, as we discussed in my "Business Continuity with Azure – Disaster Recovery" video you can provide that connectivity to your end users with services such as Point to Site VPN, or Site to Site VPN or even an ExpressRoute connection.
