Modernizing Windows CE Devices

Description

As new offerings such as Windows 10 IoT have become available, our customers and partners are increasingly interested in the advanced security, platform, and cloud connectivity features that these OS provide. To help customers move to Windows 10 IoT, leverage the intelligent cloud, and harness the full power of the intelligent edge including artificial intelligence and machine learning, Microsoft is developing technology that will allow most customers to run their existing, unmodified Windows CE applications on Windows 10 IoT while they continue to invest in updating their applications. In this episode of the #IoTShow you will get an overview of the CE migration technology with a demo.

Hi Deepu. Do I have correct understanding of this presentation: say you have 10 year old CE device, say on SH4. Maybe on ARMv4. It all works but obsolete. You want to modernize it. Existing hardware of that device cannot run Windows 10 IoT. So then you have to design and build new hardware platform which runs IoT, manufacture it, then install CE emulator on it, then copy your existing binaries and they run. Bingo. But you must build new platform for that, existing hardware (quite expensive at that time) cannot be re-used. That's a deal breaker.

Can this help make Windows CE IOT apps comply with TLS 1.2?

Thank you for your feedback. We understand that some customers want to migrate their application workload to a modern Windows 10 OS and others want to preserve their existing hardware investment and enable Windows 10 on it. The solution we are offering right now is to address the first oppurtunity to modernize the workloads.

This is certainly possible if you rely on the host to communicate using the TLS stack in host OS.

    Hi Deepu,
thank you for your answer. Yeas I am asking about the option "want to preserve their existing hardware investment...." when clearly stated that "enable Windows 10 on it" is not possible for existing 10 year old purpose built Windows CE based instrument.
