@Laura -- you look like you got pretty "Edgee" and turned into Rick. Tongue Out

@Rick -- what's up with the mittens on the thumb and fingers?   Do you have an injury with a good back-story? Smiley

@Xbox One - I don't get Microsoft's decision to "not" be backwards compatible?  Can you imagine if they did this from Windows 7 to 8 for every application you own?  I think that this was a crucial misstep in their position with the new console considering the hefty price of it and many of us have a deep Xbox 360 library of games that eventually we'll have to throw out and/or replace to play with the Xbox One versions (assuming we want them still).  I know that you can have both systems, but that seems excessive and unnecessary.  They (Microsoft) want to be forward-looking while leaving those of us who have supported the Microsoft platform from day one behind. Sad

@piercove: Good back story? I was defending my Server Rack from a vicious HoneyBadger attack over the weekend. Wink Just glad to have voice control and hands free mode for certain apps I use in Win 8.1!

My favorite feature in the Surface 2 Tips and Tricks video is the PlayTo bit. I just wish it wasn't hobbled by DRM. I tried this with a movie that I rented from the Xbox Video Store and it didn't work which is crazy because I ended up just renting it again on the Xbox. The DRM lets me watch it on both devices it should let me play it from one to the other.

But yeah, that was a good video.

My favorite Win8.1 feature isn't very obscure but I really like that it doesn't just load everything I install onto the start screen. The start screen is vastly improved in lots of nice little ways.

An obscure feature I like is the one in the start button where you can set WinKey + X to launch the Powershell instead of Cmd shell.

I like the fact that Rick is using a Surface. Awesome show!

@piercove: Backards compatibility with 360 titles isn't an intentionally omitted feature; it's simply not possible. The hardware of the Xbox One is drastically different from the 360, and emulation of the Xbox 360 would have a lot of resource overhead.

@Rickster and @Mark - Thanks for featuring my video! A little surreal to watch you guys talk about it, but very fun.

@blacqwolf:  I am just having a hard time grasping the "why" considering you can have a PC game that can (for the majority of time) outlive the computers they start out on through OS and hardware changes.  I like to think that these consoles like Xbox and PS4, etc., would be capable.  Thanks for the reply nonetheless. Wink

You should see if Microsoft has any openings for Surface evangelist. I think you've single-handedly opened more eyes about the power of Surface and Windows RT with your YouTube videos than Microsoft has with all of their marketing from the past year.

I think Rick actually runs his own content delivery network called "Rickster".

@Sean Ong:thanks for creating it in the first place! I liked how you use a variety of apps and services with it and it worked... It's not just about using it with MS services. Wink

No new episodes in over a month?

Looks like this show is canceled.

@Nick.C: Hey Nick, it is great to see you enjoyed Ping, but sad to see you missed it enough to make that great image Sad .  Laura is no longer at Microsoft and while we have discussed starting the show back up again with different hosts, our current opinion is that without Laura it just wouldn't be the same. Happy to hear your thoughts about it though!

@Duncanma:this is not good news at all you just have to bring back this show,

you could try @Golnaz. I would really love to see the showback again.

is their anything anything i could do to help?

@Abisoye_Falabi: I have an update on this. Rick and Mark are discussing keeping the show alive, more info to come in January when they are both back in the office!

@Duncanma: I think it might be time to just retire the show. I think your initial rational is correct (without Laura it wouldn't be Ping). I wouldn't want it to end up like "This Week on Channel 9 RC2'"

So close to the 200 episode mark, too!  I'm now in S.F.  I think I'm done with extreme traveling for bit and I should be here for at least a couple of years. Smiley

@PaulMest: Ah, so I don't have to wonder, for a little while anyway, where in the world Mr. Mestemaker is.

As for the show, I do hope it survives.

Nope, I'm no longer working with Mythly Studios... I'm working on the next thing which is based in S.F. I'll have more info to share soon.

I was actually rooting for MSU--need to bump up the clout of the Big Ten Conference.

I've been wondering what happened to Ping, and I've been waiting to see it again. But here it is January 16, 2014 and still no Ping. So I went to this to look at the last show, and now I read that Laura has left Microsoft?! Say it ain't so! Yeah, I'm going to miss Ping, That and the other shows that she would do. I've chosen many an app for my Windows Phone, based upon her reviews. I'll also miss her Halloween episodes. Yep, I'm very sad that she's left. Where did so go?
