Great video. Could you release them in 720 or 1080? The text and screens are not readable in the 512x288 format your publish in.

If you click on the "Media Downloads" drop down above, you can get the WMV High version which (in this case) is 960 x 544

We've been developing ribbon apps that help users manipulate documents that can range from 2 pages to 3000+ pages.  What has consistently killed us is that when we update the documents using the Word API, word must 'repaginate' for massively extended periods of time.  Even worse, we have to forcefully clear the undo buffer or Word will hang for minutes at a time after we've updated the document in our software.

We make extensive use of OpenOfficeXml to manipulate these documents and it would be wonderful if instead of hanging and repaginating, the word developers would figure out how to keep this from happening.

As a side note, the OpenOfficeXml documentation is available in both PDF and Word format.  If you open the document that describes the OpenOfficeXml content, Word is essentially unusable.

If you think I'm kidding, download the ECMA-376 1st Edition part 4 from

     http://www.ecma-international.org/publications/standards/Ecma-376.htm

and attempt to open the "Office Open XML Part 4 - Markup Language Reference.docx" file.

You will become intimately familiar with "Word is paginating".

I love the _idea_ of word as a platform for working with professional documents, but the reality is that unless the document is less that 500 pages, it's pointless to work with it.

This is a great video. We've been doing quite a few videos as well on various Office 2010 products. Outlook 2010, Word 2010, demonstrating shortcuts, tutorials on the ribbon and more.  If there is ever something we can do together that would be great.  Please see some of our work at http://www.microsoftoffice2010forums.com specifically the video section.

    Thank you,

Thanks for posting the link to Part 4 of the OOXML spec. I have a recent high end 64bit m/c with loads of RAM so even without going to draft mode I can, if I am patient, load and move about this document. I wonder if this document is in any MS Word  test suite? One reason I am not sure that it can be is because using "ctrl-click" on any reference such as"(§2.18.106)" at the foot of page 296 fails by taking you to the start of the document. Funnily enough the Navigation Header Browser works, as do TOC references.

My hope is that Word could be a platform for building robust large documents, but this example, ironically built by MS themselves to describe a MS Word thing, seems to be a bit of a kick in the teeth. Anyway - over to MS to tell us about viewing/navigating/editing this file in MS Word 2010. I propose that this file (or a fixed version) become the benchmark for serious Word use.
