    The Discussion

    • BobTabor

Hi Cathy / Robert ... is the overall look and feel "set" or do you anticipate aesthetic or functional changes to the IDE before its final release?  I'm asking for the purpose of creating labs / training content / screenshots / screen casts, etc.  Thanks!

    • huangxiaofei

In some Java-based IDEs( Eclipse, or IntelliJ), you can make you code windows maxium just by double clicking the tabs of these code windows. And you can also restore the code windows from maxium by double clicking the tabs again. I really like this feature. Dose Visual Studio provide this feature?

    • rogreen

@huangxiaofei: If you drag a tab out of the Document Well, it will be in its own window. You can then maximize the window by double clicking and restore it by double clicking. But this doesn't work on the tab itself.

why is the IDE still so depressing ugly like in VS2012?

    • MicheleGobbato

      Hi Cathy

I have installed Visual Studio Express 2013 for Windows Desktop (Italian)

Is there a reason why I didn't find the "Code Information Indicators" ?

      Maybe it's another release ?

      Thanks

      Michele

    • cathysull

@MicheleGobbato - CodeLens "Code Information Indicators" are only available in the Visual Studio Ultimate 2013 Preview SKU.

      Thanks! Cathy

Any idea how do I get I Heart Visual Studio sticker Smiley?

I have a suggestion for VS.

      1. if Today I want to use 2010 Express or 2012 then I want to install the software then applied update.

      This is something wrong.

Applying update to software make it slow. Sometime error may happen like Package xyz can not be loaded in VS express or above version.

This is problem for future time for people who still use it or want to try.

I wish to have updated ISO with updated with all updated. this means I don't need to install VS update all update to just use VS 12.

I thing When I first time I use VWD express I see the "updated sp1" in About us. I never have install anything after install It (I am not sure).

My means I got the updated installer so I don't need to install updated.

I means I got 2008 SP1 updated ISO for express version. For 2010+ version I need to update after installation.

OOps, I forget to say Thanks to Kathy for blue theme and their work in VS13.

I like the presentation. One more question. When I will got this VS13 RC.

I report few bugs on Connect and got answer that we have solved it in VS13 RC.

When VS13 RC will launch in public.

i saw many videos of yours. i am learning c# and just a beginner.

i want to learn more about classes and its objects, like what all can we do with objects.

i saw in delegations/File I/p O/o e.t.c, we use objects as arguments,parameter..what does it actually mean?

i want some ready projects with User interface and Source code to understanding programming more and to know the console concepts practically

couldn't find a way to contact you,so posted here

      thanks

Love the "send a smile" feature.  I wish every single ms product had one.

I think it would be helpful if there was a button in the "send a smile" that let me jump into the detailed feedback mode so that I could be more helpful with my feedback.

    • Greg Low

It's excellent that you can now have your settings saved based on your Windows ID but what about those of us that need more than one set of settings? For example, I have two logins on my laptop. One is used for demonstrations and presentations, the other is used for my day to day work. But I could also imagine requirements for "when I'm working at home" as opposed to "when I'm working at the office".

Please don't suggest managing multiple Windows IDs as the solution...

Why is there no answer to MagicAndre's question "why is the IDE still so depressing ugly like in VS2012?"?

The upppercase menu text is hard to read. You took away most of the Color, that is like taking away one Dimension. It's that hard to find a particular item when all Icons are gray.

I dont have to impress my neighbour with a brand new IDE, I have to work with it. Work get's harder than it must be, when known items have a new Icon.

You should provide the abilty to change the look of the IDE, so it Looks like VS2010.

    • Wolfgang Bierl

Maybe it's better to understand the question if it is written like this:
wHY iS tHE iDE sO dEPRESSING uGLY lIKE iN vS20tWELVE?

At positon 11:30 of the video You sell us the enhancement, that the divider to resize tool windows is better to find in 2013 than in 2012.
That never was a problem in 2010.

Another "enhancement" is, that you put some color (back) in.
      What a succes.
That never was a problem in 2010 too.

Why don't you make the whole step and bring back the look and feel of 2010 with the *functional* and therfore *real* enhancements.

It is not helpful if you have to "learn" the UI again after every new release, especaially if you bring a new one every year from now on.
Why don't you just enhance performance and funktionality. Why confusing with new icons for known funktions?

you'll never get answer to negative feedback. They only wanted to be praised for their "cool" product, but criticism is not allowed. This is the typical Microsoft arrogance.

@MagicAndre1981:On the contrary, we are happy to engage in discussions with customers. As you know, we had this conversation when folks first saw the new IDE look and feel. We told you why we did what we did. We listened to feedback, including lots of criticisms. We made some adjustments and have made even more. We'll continue to take feedback and make additional changes.
