Workflow TV - AppFabric AutoStart and WF4 Batch Job Example

Sign in to queue

Description

After the
previous episode on the WF Batch Job example
went live many people asked me if there was a way to automatically start a batch job at system boot.  There is a way and I described it in

this blog post
.  For more detail, check out this episode as I show you how to do it.

    Hi Ron,
    great series on WF - have enjoyed them a lot.
    Is it possible to auto start a workflow just via web.config configuration?
        <microsoft.applicationServer>
            <hosting>            <serviceAutoStart>                <add relativeVirtualPath="Service1.xamlx" />            </serviceAutoStart>        </hosting>    </microsoft.applicationServer>

    rather than having to make an internal call within Global.asax to call back into the service to kick start it?
    I found a thread here:
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/dublin/thread/22c33c90-6bef-40e9-8b28-9aada4157281
    that almost answers the question - but still no definitive answer.
    My scenario is that I want to replace a Windows Service that pops items off a Queue for processing and what I'd ideally like is a WF4 activity hosted with AppFabric that is auto started enabled - but I just can't seem to find a way for it to automatically invoke the workflow...
    Many thanks,

    Howard
