CodeChat 028 - Ryan Salva on Awesome Cordova Tooling

This week... a chat with Ryan Salva from the team that makes the Cordova Tooling for Visual Studio. He tells us why web developers young and old, near and far would want to use this tool to make cross platform mobile apps built on the web platform technologies of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Spoiler alert! A couple of the compelling reasons are...

  • A dramatically simple process for getting started. The tool's installation process takes care of installing all of the dependencies in the right order saving you many hours if not days of head banging work.
  • Debuggability. Visual Studio has always rocked hard on the subject of debugging, and with the Cordova tools, that's still a go. You get good debugging on all the platforms.

So when you're ready to write an app one time using the code you know and then hit the easy button to make iOS, Android, and Windows Phone apps - and more, here's your tool.

If you're using Visual Studio 2013, you need to go here and install the tooling. If you're using VS2015, it's in the box, so you should be good to go.

Either way check out the documentation if you want some help getting started.
