In this episode of the maker show, David Crook will do an introduction into electronics and how they work.  This episode focuses on many of the fundamentals of the very thing that drives most of our projects, electricity.  How to generate more power, how to ensure you don't blow your circuits, why electricity flows where it does.  And of course introducing a good philosophy of when life gives you lemons, to make electricity.

      Great video. It is only sometimes hard to get the real setup on the breadboard, may be it would be helpful to show (blend in) a sketch of the circuit on the breadboard (maybe with hidden connections indicated). That would be really great for people like me who are very much into programming, but only remember a few electronics basics from school times.

      @RaReRa: Thanks for the feedback. We're still ironing out best practices for the show and we'll be sure to use camera close-ups and/or on-screen diagrams to make it easier to see schematics and breadboard experiments. Thanks for watching.

      Could I suggest you look at using this for the generation of schematics?

      It's the standard package which is used on all the tutorials on the Arduino tutorials for generating their schematics.

      Very interesting video for a software-only person :). Two notes however:

      - at around 19:20, we couldn't actually see what was being setup, which would have been helpful;

      - right at the end: ok, we now know what a diode does, but what is it used for?

      @Northernlad: Thanks for the suggestion. Most of us already use Fritzing, you're right, it's an awesome software. We'll be sure to feature more screens to show diagrams and such in future shows.

      @jota: Diodes are used to divide signals or alternating current into a direct current that goes from zero (ground) to higher voltage.  Diodes do not increase the signal strength.

      @jota:This diode is used to help protect from circuit kick back which might happen in front of a motor.  I should have explained that a bit more clearly.
