A micro, big contest? How about a .Net Micro Framework Contest

The .Net Micro framework now works in Express!

And the Micro Framework team has created a contest to get hobbyists to play with it.  You have the chance to win free hardware just for submitting a rocking idea!  And if you're a student, why not go the extra mile and use your entry here for Imagine Cup too!

You can download the SDK along with view some source examples.

Here is the quick breakdown of the contest:

October 8, 2008 – December 15, 2008

Submit your idea(s) online

  • Describe your idea, what's so cool about,
it and how you would go about creating it

January 15, 2009 – March 31, 2009

Create a working prototype

  • 100 semi-finalists selected by our
    panel of judges
  • Microsoft sends out free developer kits
    (hardware and software)
  • Participants create a working prototype
and submit a video for evaluation

April 15, 2009 – May 31, 2009

Demonstrate your system
and how you built it

  • 10 finalists from Round 2 make
    presentations before a panel of
    industry experts and setup/demonstrate
    the system
  • Final winners selected and prizes awarded

I thought this sounded awesome until I realized I couldn't find any prices for the hardware. I eventually found one - $900. No wonder the price was hidden.

This .NET Micro stuff sounds awesome and I'd love to try it but I certainly cannot afford to buy their hardware.

@Mark enter the contest, the 100 best entries will be given free hardware!

    http://www.sjjmicro.com/EDK.html is about $150
